Stephen Hamilton’s cashew chicken
August 8, 2011
Photographer Stephen Hamilton changed his vantage point to shoot his all-time favorite Thai dish, cashew chicken. Inspired by an Edgewater restaurant, Jin Thai Cuisine, Stephen recreated the dish after dinning at this new, casual eatery that opened just a few weeks ago.
Choosing to shoot overhead, Stephen wanted show the entire dish and the diverse ingredients that are served in this Thai specialty. Enlisting the help of photo stylist extraordinaire, Paula Walters, the photograph reflects the freshness and rich qualities of this spicy entrée. Using a plate and tabletop in darker, cool tones, the bright vegetables pop out from the image in their natural vibrant colors. Adding a rice bowl to the top frame of the image compliments the overall picture and atmosphere of this scrumptious meal. Keeping the bowl unlit, the eye is naturally drawn to the richness of the cashew chicken, with the flavors as evident in the photo as they would be if the dish was placed in front of you.
