Saverio Truglia’s “Ameriville” portrait
December 12, 2011
Influenced by Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze’s “Washington Crossing the Delaware” Saverio Truglia photographs his own interpretation of the famous painting for Victory Gardens Theater’s current ad campaign. Saverio has been working with the local theater company this season shooting their promotional images that have been seen all over Chicago on posters, print ads and their website. For the play “Ameriville” Saverio photographs a lone actor afloat on a weather beaten vessel in a post-Katrina era. A subtle red, white and blue are creatively displayed on the rowboat, with a deconstructed flag adding visual intrigue to the plot of the play. Hoping to create “a symbol of American perseverance and courage” said Saverio of this conceptual portrait, the play deals with current social issues through energetic performances by the New York-based ensemble company, UNIVERSES. “Ameriville” opens January 27, 2012.
